For hauling cargo, or towing a trailer, a Ford F-150 pickup is the preferred choice for many motorists. However, Ford insists that no vehicle should ever exceed its gross combined weight (GCW). GCW equals the weight of a loaded F-150 plus the weight of a fully loaded trailer. Ford also insists the gross combined weight rating (GCWR) not be exceeded. GCWR is the maximum allowable weight of the vehicle, trailer, cargo and passengers the vehicle can handle, without risking engine damage or brake failure. The GCW must never exceed the GCWR. This information can be found on the Safety Compliance Certification Label, attached to the door frame or edge on the driver's side. A complete model-by-model list of all F-150 GCWR and trailer weight specifications can be found in the F-150 Owner's Guide in the section titled "Tires, Wheels and Loading."
